Install Hiri Email Client on Ubuntu 16.04 | 18.04 Desktop

Hiri is a cross-platform desktop email client that’s built for Microsoft email ecosystem with modern look and feel and support for Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and more.

It is a real alternative to Microsoft Office. Although most people don’t use email clients on Linux machines, this one is a great program to have when using Ubuntu or other supported Linux desktops.

This brief tutorial is going to show students and new users how to install Hiri email client on Ubuntu 16.04 / 17.10 and 18.04 desktop.

You get to try Hiri for 7 days. and if you need it, purchase a license to use.

Hiri also supports other email platforms and great for Gmail as well.

If you’re just going to be using the client to send and receive emails, then the free version should be more than enough.

Below are two options available when installing Hiri on Ubuntu desktops. You can select either one to get it installed.

Option #1: Install its Archive Package

To install Hiri using its archived package, simply go to this link below. Click and download it to your desktop . The download package includes a binary build of Hiri with all the dependencies included, so you don’t have to install anything else.

Download and save the file to your desktop. usually in the ~/Downloads folder of your Home directory.

After downloading, navigate to your Downloads folder using the commands below and install.

$ cd ~/Downloads
$ tar xf Hiri.tar.gz
$ cd hiri
$ ./hiri.sh

Simply follow the wizard to log in to your email. Once you’re in, you can create a desktop launcher to be able to start Hiri more easily from your desktop environment. You should get a prompt to enter your email address.

When you’re done, Hiri should be installed and ready to use. To launch it, go to the Activities Overview and search Hiri and launch it.

Option #2: Install Hiri Snap Package

Hiri can also be installed via Ubuntu snap package management. This might be the quickest way to install Hiri .

To install via Snap, run the commands below

sudo apt install snapd
sudo snap install hiri
