How to Turn On or Off App Sharing Across Devices in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to enable or disable app sharing across devices in Windows 11. When you use Windows with your Microsoft account, you can enable Share across devices to allow you to continue Windows app shared experiences on other devices connected to your account.

To use the share across devices feature in Windows, you will need to enable and turn it on for all devices you want to allow “Shared Experiences” or “Cross Device Experiences” on. The default option will allow your apps to be shared on devices you’re signed into using Microsoft account.

Most people have multiple devices, and often begin an activity on one device but end up finishing it on another. To accommodate this, apps need to span devices and platforms, and this is where Share across devices come in.

There are three settings that can be selected with Share across devices in Windows 11. You can select the share app experiences turned Off, share with My devices only or with Everyone nearby.

Below is how to use Share across devices in Windows 11.

Below is how to change the Share across devices settings in Windows 11.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Apps, then on the right pane, and select the Apps & features or Advanced apps Settings tile to expand it.

On the Apps & feature  or Advanced apps settings pane, select the tile for “Share across devices” to expand it.

On the Share across devices settings, selection the settings option for your devices.

  • Off – Turn off the feature so that it’s not used.
  • My devices only – This will allow share app experience across all your devices you signed in to with your Microsoft account.
  • Everyone nearby – This will give everyone nearby permission to use the share across devices feature to share with you.

To share your apps experience across multiple devices, you’ll want to make sure the default option (My devices only) is selected for all devices.

That should do it!
