By design, Spotify will automatically start up everytime Windows starts. If you don’t want it running in the background and slowing down Windows boot process, you can disable its autostart feature.

Windows download – Spotify

Once downloaded, browse and open your Downloads folder and run the executable.

Now that Spotify is installed and you’re able to login, use the steps below to disable Spotify’s autostart feature so that it doesn’t startup everytime Windows starts.

How to disable Spotify auto startup with Windows

As mentioned above, the default Spotify behavior is to start up everytime Windows starts. You can prevent that using the methods below.

First, launch Spotify from the Start menu or double-click the green Spotify icon in the Taskbar or on your desktop.

Once opened, at the top-left corner of the Spotify window, click Menu (…) > Edit > Preferences.

On the Preferences pane, scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and click the Show Advanced Settings button.

On the Advanced settings pane, under Startup and windows behaviour, use the drop-down option for “Open Spotify automatically after you log into the computer” and choose No.

You can now close the settings pane. Spotify will not automatically startup everytime you sign into Windows again.k

How to prevent Spotify from starting up via Task Manager

You can also disable Spotify from starting up with Windows using the Task Manager.

With Spotify installed, click on the Start button, then search for Task Manager. Under Best match, click the Task Manager app.
