How to Enable or Disable Always Show Forward Button in Microsoft Edge

This article describes the steps to turn on or off “Always show forward button” on the toolbar with the Microsoft Edge browser.

The Microsoft Edge browser is the default browser in Windows 11. Users are allowed to switch to their preferred or favorite browser anytime. Edge is based on Chromium, similar to Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers today.

By default, the forward button will auto appears in the toolbar when it’s possible to go forward. You may have noticed that the forward button doesn’t show all the time when you need it.

If you’d like the forward button to always appear on the toolbar, the steps below will show you how to do that.

When the forward button is active, you can click the button to go forward or press the Alt + Right arrow key on your keyboard.

Show the forward button always with Microsoft Edge

Here’s how to turn on or off showing the forward button always with Edge.

First, open Microsoft Edge, select Settings and More (3 dots), or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt + F). On the context menu, select Settings.

On the Settings page, click on Appearance on the left.

On the Settings –> Appearance page, under Customize toolbar, select the tile that says “Select which buttons to show on the toolbar”, then select one of the following options for the Forward button:

  • Show automatically
  • Always show

To disable it, or stop showing the Forward button, select the Show automatically option.
