The new Microsoft Edge browser has adopted the Chromium open source project code base and offers better web compatibility and performance over the legacy edge.
Edge browser is a cross-platform which supports all of Windows, MacOS and Linux systems. If you’re currently using Edge and want to learn how to disable the new feature that allows users to reveal typed password in Edge, the steps below should show you how to do it.
Microsoft Edge allows users to view typed passwords using the “Reveal password” button in the password field on websites online. Selecting this button shows what you’ve typed. Some sites may override this setting.
After you typed in the password field for a site, you will see a “Reveal password” (eye) button. Selecting the “eye” icon shows what you’ve typed in the password field.
The steps below showed you how to turn it off so that you won’t get the options to reveal password you typed for sites online.
To get started with disabling the Reveal password in Edge, follow the steps below:
Disable Reveal password
To disable “Reveal password“, open Microsoft Edge and click the 3 horizontal dots ( . ) at the top right corner of your screen as shown in the image below.
When the Settings page opens, click on Profiles on the left side, and click on Passwords on the right side.
If you want to enable it, then make sure it is turned on.
Disable Reveal password from registry
You can also disable the Reveal password feature from Windows registry.
If you’re logged in as an administrator, you can also disable this feature via Windows registry. To do that, use the steps below:
Using Windows registry is one way to force all users on the system to disable the feature. There are multiples ways to do this in Windows, however, using Windows registry is the easiest and most effective way to do it.
To enable, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the run command box. Or use the search function to search for the Run app.
In the command box, type the commands below and press Enter.
regedit
Then the registry opens, navigate to the path below. If you don’t see the Edge key, create one.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
From there, right-click on the Edge key and select the New > DWORD (32-bit) Value option to create a REG_DWORD value if you don’t see existing PasswordRevealEnabled value already created.
Name the new DWORD value as
PasswordRevealEnabled
After saving the DWORD above, double-click it to open. Then enter the value of 0 to enable.
(delete) = Default
0 = Always disabled
1 = Always enabled
That should do it!
