The touch keyboard feature also has a handwriting panel that you can write on with a pen or fingertip. This is typically available on tablet devices with a touchscreen and no attached keyboard.
Windows also lets you enable or disable the ability to use your fingertip to write in the handwriting panel via the Settings app or the Windows Registry Editor. If fingertip use is disabled, you can use a pen to write in the handwriting panel.
When you use a pen or your fingertip on the handwriting panel, the text you entered will automatically be converted to Ink Free font type with medium size. However, if the current Ink Free font isn’t what you want, the steps below show you how to change it.
Change the Handwriting panel font in Windows 11
As described above, Windows lets you change the font type used in the handwriting panel via the Settings app or the Windows Registry Editor.
Here’s how to do that.
First, open the Windows Settings app.
You can do that by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings. Or press the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + I) to launch the Settings app.
When the Setting app opens, click the Bluetooth & devices button on the left.
Select the Pen & Windows Ink tile on the right to expand it.
On the Bluetooth & devices -> Pen & Windows Ink setting pane under Handwriting, select and expand the “Use your handwriting to enter text” tile.
Next, choose the font to convert to automatically when using the handwriting panel.
Close the Settings app when you are done.
Change the font to use with the handwriting panel via the Windows Registry Editor
Yet another way to change the font in the handwriting pane is to use the Windows Registry Editor.
First, open the Windows Registry, and navigate to the folder key path below.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\TabletTip\EmbeddedInkControl
If you don’t see the EmbeddedInkControl folder key, right-click on the TabletTip key, then create the subkey (EmbeddedInkControl) folders.
Right-click the EmbeddedInkControl folder key’s right pane and select New -> String Value. Type a new key named LatinFontName.
Double-click the new key item name (LatinFontName) and enter a Value data matching the font you want to use:
By default, Ink Free all text you enter with a pen or your fingertip is automatically converted to the Ink Free font.
Windows stores all its fonts in the C:\Windows\Font directory. Open that directory to find a font family to use with the handwriting panel. Then, type the font name in the Value data field to use it.
Save your changes and restart your computer.
